If feasting your eyes on jaw-dropping scenery is as important as the challenge of trekking in the Himalayas, then the Gokyo Valley is the place to go.

A hiking expedition taking in a Gokyo Valley Trek and Renjo La Pass is guaranteed to bring you up close to some of the most magnificent glacial sights. It will also provide ecological adventures and a chance to see nature at its rawest. Eco-adventure holidays to the Gokyo Valley are popular with good reason, and for moderate to challenging trekking expeditions, Renjo La Pass ranks high.

The geography and nature of the Gokyo Valley and Renjo La Pass

What makes this one of the best trekking experiences in the world? The steep, rocky terrain of the Gokyo Valley shows the Everest foothills at their finest, but also holds beautiful glacial lakes and hypnotic glaciers. The light quality here is magical and counterbalances glistening ice and snow with lush alpine greenery on the lower slopes.

The Gokyo Peak (known as Gokyo Ri) stands nobly at 5357m (Coordinates: 27°57?40?N 86°41?00?E). It is carved from the Ngozumpa glacier, believed to be the largest glacier in the Himalayas. As you ascend, the vista becomes different at every rest point. On reaching the Ngozumpa View Point, you will be rewarded with incredible views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho You, as well as other iconic mountains of the Khumbu region.

We make it possible to expand your Himalayan expedition by adding in the Renjo La Pass, a more remote but highly advantageous trekking or mountaineering destination. One of the three highest passes of the Everest region, Renjo La Pass puts you amongst the unmissable Gokyo lakes (all lakes).

The region’s prolific culture and adventure benefits

Any trekking or hiking trip to Nepal offers the chance to sample the beguiling culture of this warm and welcoming nation. This trip provides access to unspoiled mountain villages, important Buddhist Monasteries and shrines, and other heritage sites.

Flying into Lukla is an adventure in itself and the only way to explore the Sagarmatha National Park. The park is a Natural World Heritage Site and home to some of the most important birds on the planet. It is packed with indigenous vegetation and wildlife, including edibles that influence Nepalese cultural dishes.

Activities and acclimatization

The best time for hiking and walking in the Gokyo Valley (taking in the Renjo La Pass) is September to November, and March to April. It is generally a 12-day trip beginning and ending in the fascinating Nepalese capital of Kathmandu.

Not only do we put together accommodation, equipment, and other supplies for expeditions, but we also make sure even your downtime and days to acclimatize have bountiful opportunities for adventure. This includes putting you in the best places to see breath-taking sunrises and sunsets from Gokyo Ri.

Risk factors for expeditions to Gokyo Valley and Renjo La Pass

Nepal Mountain Trekkers work to high standards, in partnership with teams of experienced local Sherpas. We deeply respect both the region and climate and make sure all equipment, preparation and support are beyond mandatory levels.

Taking part in a Gokyo Valley and Renjo La Pass expedition requires that you have a good level of fitness. Please contact Nepal Mountain Trekkers to discuss what this means for you, and details of all other health and safety factors we strictly adhere to.

I did the Gokyo Ri trek and it was amazing!! They took care of every detail since I arrived at the airport. Krishna was the best guide, always asking how I was doing, making sure I was comfortable in every tea house we stayed in and during the trek. If I come back for another trek in Nepal I will choose Nepal Mountain Trekkers again, for sure!

Great trek.
Many people, mules, and dzopke the first two days to go to Namche Bazaar as lot of people are going to Everest base camp, but after that we see very few trekkers.
The day from Namche Bazaar to Dole is hard, while the rest is easier, with not much elevation gain after Dole .
Gokyo Rii is fantastic , great views all around of Everest, Lhotse, Cho oyu,...
Cold in late afternoon and early in the morning as rooms in guest houses are not heated and dining rooms are not heated at that time. (especially in Dole)
Always sunny skies in the morning with great view and visibility of the summits around.
Lodges were generally good , however i would not recommend staying in Tok Tok, it is more quiet but lodge service was not good . Better to stay in Phadking with more choices of lodges.
Thanks to our guides Ganga and Aypure and to our porters for your dedication and flexibility in making our trek so enjoyable.

Amazing trek to Ama Dablam Base Camp, Sano Taboche view point and Gokyo Ri.

It was another trek in the Himalayas with Nepal Mountain Trekkers. Another great experience. Everything is well prepared, since the arrival to Kathmandu, through flight to Lukla, during trekking. We only have to enjoy the views. If I go to Nepal again, I'm sure it will be trek with Nepal Moutain Trekkers.

Our first hike in Nepal and it was incredible!

Ramesh organised our itinerary for my husband and I based on the amount of time that we had. This included a personal airport pickup, our return flights to and from Lukla, a guide and porter for us, and also our accomodation in Kathmandu before and after our trek.

We set out planning to get to Tengboche, as our time was limited, but we were able to take it day by day depending on how we were fairing. As we hiked, we thought, this isn't as hard as we thought it would be - let's go further! Our amazing guide named Tika was obliging and set a new route for us mid-hike and we made it all the way to Ama Dablam base camp. Tika was always only a few steps ahead and was happy to tell us the names of all the mountains we could see along the way, the names of trees and plants, and the names of the villages across distant valleys. When we reached our destination each night he was always busy organising our meals, cups of tea, making sure our drink bottles were filled and that we were happy and healthy. He's a very polite, caring and experienced guide (with great english skills) who we'd definitely request for our next Himalayan experience and would certainly recommend to anyone else too.

We cannot express how satisfied and impressed we were with this company; a well run, honest business that really care for the customer's experience and safety. Nepal Mountain Trekkers allowed us to choose our own start and end date and plan the trek each day with no fixed or locked in agenda. This type of flexibility is something that you do not get in large group tours. It was our own private tour without the private tour price.

I had the joy of getting sick the day before we left Nepal and Ramesh organised for my care at a local hospital - complete with sorting our insurance and transfers to and from the hospital. He went above and beyond his duty as hotel manager and trekking company operator - he made a difficult time easier. Both Ramesh and our guide Tika came to the hospital to visit and make sure my health was on the mend.

There are many companies in Kathmandu that can take you on a breathtaking hike; but this one truely has the heart and passion for this exceptional place on Earth.

We are already planning our next trip to Gokyo Ri with Nepal Mountain Trekkers - We couldn't recommend higher! Nepal Mountain Trekkers 100%
