New Height of Mount Everest Announced

Today, on 8th December 2020, the new height of Mount Everest has been announced as 8848.86 meters ( 29,031.69 feet) by Nepalese Foreign Minister, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali. The height of Mount Everest has increased by 0.86 centimeters i.e. two feet higher than the earlier record.

The survey for identifying the new elevation of Mount Everest had been purposed by the Government of Nepal, considering that there could have been some fluctuations in the previously recognized height of the mighty Everest after the massive earthquake of 2015 in Nepal.

The Survey Department of Nepal had taken action and did the fieldwork from the year 2017 which came to an end last year and this became a matter of international politics. Hence, in coordination with the Government of China regarding the re-measure after signing an agreement while the Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Nepal last year, the survey was planned and implemented by the Survey Department of Nepal and Chinese authorities.
